13 Free Halloween Activities for Home or School

WEBSITE ↬ 13 Free Halloween Activities for Home or School

AUDIENCE ↬ teachers

CONTENT ↬ Holiday - Halloween

GRADE LEVELS ↬ various grades - dependent on student skill and the activity

I have long enjoyed a good digital breakout. This entire SITE is dedicated to them. And this particular section shares Halloween themed ones. Just in time for the holiday, check out the fun and be sure to try one or two with your students.

HOW CAN TEACHERS USE THIS RESOURCE?
I can see teachers using this as brain breaks around the Halloween holiday, or possibly as part of a party. Some of these activities are digital and some are meant to be printed. Also, if you are brave, you could share this site with your students and allow them to choose which activity(ies) they want to complete. Regardless ... have fun!

Digital "Paper" Snowflakes

WEBSITE ↬ Digital Snowflakes

AUDIENCE ↬ students

CONTENT ↬ math, fun

GRADE LEVELS ↬ grades 2 & up

Some websites are just pure fun! This is one of them! As a kid, I loved cutting out paper snowflakes ... you? What if I told you this website allows you to do this digitally??? Yes!!! I made the snowflake in today's image & had a lot of fun doing it!

Thanks, Beth Kingsley for sharing this! I can see lots of time spent on this site creating unique snowflakes! (And ... this is a "no mess" activity ... you won't have paper scraps all over your floor!)

HOW CAN TEACHERS USE THIS RESOURCE?
I can see teachers using this in math class for sure! When studying shapes, challenge your students to draw specific shapes - squares, rectangles, triangles. And level it up by giving a certain number of shapes that must be there. And how about challenging them to get their points close enough together to form a circle ... or as close to one they can?

Another option is indoor recess or as a fast finisher activity.

AUDIENCE ↬ teachers

GRADE LEVELS ↬ K-6ish

You might asking yourself, what in the world is this? Quite often, companies put out supporting material that gets overlooked. Because of my position, I received lots of emails and quite often, I find little nuggets tucked inside.

This is from edmentum - we use one of their programs - and I stumbled on this "Topical Classroom Activity Packs" and found holiday themed lessons and activities inside. They are separated by month, so it is easy to find activities based on the time of year. Be sure to bookmark this one and return to it! And by the way, they are FREE downloads.

To peak your interest, here are just some of the themes included:
  • Martin Luther King, Jr (January)
  • Black History Month (February)

Halloween Pumpkin Activity

WEBSITE ↬ Build a Jack-o-Lantern
additional link ↬ Build a Jack-o-Lantern, for little ones

AUDIENCE ↬ students
CONTENT ↬ ELA & tech

GRADE LEVELS ↬ grades 1 & up

Eric Curts is an excellent creator and share-r. His "Build a Jack-o-Lantern" template is perfect for this time of year. I did this with numerous classes last year and they ALL💖 it. For many students, it was their first time working with templates and copying & pasting.

The copying & pasting can be frustrating for the youngest learners, so this year, I took Eric's template and modified it a bit, specifically for some first grade classes. If you work with younger students, you might be interested in it as well. I limited the options and moved the writing part to it's own slide. One of the biggest frustrations for the little ones I worked with last year was when they'd accidentally delete the pumpkin, so I inserted it as part of the background.

Eric is the true creator of this template, I only modified it for the youngest ones that I work with.

Google-y Halloween Fun!

Halloween is right around the corner! Did you know you can do several Halloween themed activities with your students digitally? I absolutely LOVE when people share out their holiday-themed creations.

Eric Curts has numerous cool digital activities and his "Build a Jack-o-lantern with Google Slides" is no exception! He provides an easy to grab template for anyone to grab and then share it with students. His website - ControlAltAchieve.com - is packed with activities to use all year long!

Another fantastic resource is Kasey Bell. Kasey shared her "Halloween Magnetic Poetry with Google Drawings". She was inspired by the refrigerator magnets of my childhood! Love it! I'll admit, poetry is not one of my favorites, but I could DO this. Again, a template is provided, so it's an easy click and a copy is yours to share. Kasey even shares a Google folder where you can see others.

WHY?

✓ teach copy & paste skills
✓ practice drag & drop skills
✓ encourage creativity (You'll be amazed at what your students create!)
✓ allow students to write, too!
✓ it's SO fun!

Here are BONUS math activities ↬ these aren't Google - maybe it can count since I received it through Gmail - Anthony Persico from MashUp Math sent this out 2 years ago, but it's still SUPER Awesome! He shared "7 Engaging Halloween-Themed Math Activities". I'm definitely up for Game #1 --- YUM!!!
