Hear me out ... April begins our month of testing (it at least feels like it lasts all month ...) so there will be plenty of required time in a very structured learning environment. How about planning for some non-heavy focused activities? Without losing the benefit of creativity and practicing those following directions skills, how about some directed drawing activities? To the tune of 70???

Let's give our students brains a little bit of a break from the testing environment without there being a free-for-all. I see kids, even the little ones, shying away from drawing. That makes me sad ... doodling and drawing is a fantastic way to relax, and I see our kids shying away from it. Let's give it back to them.  

HOW CAN TEACHERS USE THIS RESOURCE?

I can see teachers using this in the short breaks of time. None of these have to be super intense or with the idea that you are encouraging the next Picasso (but wouldn't that be amazing???). Let's give our students space to try out drawing, but with some guidance. Enjoy!

This is their app review page which offers honest, detailed breakdowns of today’s most popular platforms—like TikTok, Roblox, and Discord—going well beyond the basic descriptions you’ll find in the App Store.

Think of this site as your digital "safety manual"; it provides clear insights into potential risks and helpful safety features so you can make informed decisions for the children in your care. Whether you are a parent, teacher, or youth leader, this site is a wonderful tool for creating safer online spaces and sparking meaningful conversations about technology!

I have become a big believer in the need to limit/eliminate the use of students' cell phones in school. I also believe we, as a society, need to push back on the "norm" of giving devices to kids at a young age. This resource is built for schools to help your school figure out what is best for you. I love that it is set up in a way for you to include ALL the "players" - students, parents, teachers, and admin.

I can see teachers sharing this resource with their school leaders. Some of us need to start a conversation, some of us need to continue a conversation, and some are at the point of revisiting conversations to ensure the policy best fits their community.

I have enjoyed several TED Talks. They always make me think about the topic being covered in a way differently than I currently do. TED-Ed brings that world to you & your students. You will find great lesson plans that support the video. I used a couple of them in my own classroom when I taught Communications - seeing real students speaking to audiences helped my students see what good examples are for their peers.

HOW CAN TEACHERS USE THIS RESOURCE?

I can see teachers using this to find solid, well thought out lesson plans to support their classroom. Their lessons lay out how to use it in the classroom, but I don't be afraid to add your own spin on it and really make it work for you & your students. Maybe it will inspire you to have your students create their own Ted Talks?

I have become more and more aware the last several years of the risks we are taking with all of the programs we have our students and our own children using. Unfortunately, not all companies have our kids best interests at heart and I want to make you aware of a resource I have often used before allowing my own daughters use an app or program and I have used to check out programs for use with my students at school. Please do not just say "yes" to everything. Our kids want the latest and the flashy and what everyone else has ... but that opens doors to risks that you may not want for them.

The evaluations are simple and clear. Super easy to understand and then if you decide it's ok, you will be better informed as to why you've chosen to allow it.

HOW CAN PARENTS and TEACHERS USE THIS RESOURCE?

I can see parents using this resource when their kids ask about a new app for their device. We don't know what we don't know ... and sometimes the "fun" apps open our kids up to security risks. 

And I see teachers using this resource when they want to try a new website or app with their students. We take the place of parents at school in making these decisions, so we need to be just as cautious when making these choices.

This resource is amazing! Created by Angela Watson - of Truth for Teachers - to help teachers help their students. We all know students have to be willing participants in their learning or it won't happen. As a classroom teacher, I am frustrated with the lack of engagement and the behaviors that cause disruptions and take my attention away from those who want to learn. I am hoping to utilize Unit 1 soon in my classroom.

As of December, 2024 - there are 6 units ready for middle school (grades 6-8) and 6 units for high school (grades 9-12). Elementary units are noted to be coming soon. It's also important to note - the first unit is available completely FREE! 

HOW CAN TEACHERS USE THIS RESOURCE?

I can see teachers using this in their classrooms for sure! I'd recommend being strategic with the lessons. I'm sure you can repeat them, but I'd think a building-wide approach would benefit all students. With 6 units, it'd be ideal to assign them to grade levels so there is a wholistic approach. 

Licenses can be purchased for more than one teacher, too.

This is truly unique resource - and one that teachers need to share with parents to support the "home" part of education. There is a video for every study hack and they are quick ... most are less than 2 minutes. 

HOW CAN TEACHERS USE THIS RESOURCE?

I can see teachers sharing this entire site with parents as an "on-demand" resource. Many parents will appreciate the efficient & simple layout the videos and the infographics share. 

Another idea might be to share one video/infographic at a time to coincide with study skills being taught at school.

Instead, it's an opportunity for Ohio Educators to earn credit for renewal of licenses. And it's not super expensive! (Which is a huge relief!) The summer is the perfect time to jump on this opportunity ... but you can continue learning through the school year.

Ohio teachers can use this opportunity to earn graduate credits - pretty inexpensively - in order to level up or renew their license. There appear to be quite a variety of topics to learn about.

I love everything about this site. I love that it is driven by questions kids have. I love that the answers are short and in video format. I love that they meant to be filler for those times in the school day where you need "something" but you don't have to prepare it. The questions are intriguing ones, ones that will encourage your class to start thinking:

• Why do we get goosebumps?
• Why does soap make bubbles?
• Can a turtle live outside it's shell?

Videos are divided into age groups and content areas, making searching easy.

No profile needed ... no subscription to renew ... BUT a wealth of videos to be found!

This site provides one example of these kinds of adventures - and it packs a bigger punch than just the field trip. Each trip comes with activities that further support the trip and allows for a richer experience. The filtering ability also makes it super easy to discover which trips will support specific content.

Check out this article for a giant list of podcasts broken down by age group. You will find a podcast that works for you and your students. Whether you listen as a group or provide options for small group or individual listening time, podcasts can be a wonderful addition to every classroom.

This is a must-see & use for sure!

And for no other reason than to provide an endless supply of manipulatives your students can use over and over again, whether they are in-person, hybrid, or remote. These would be awesome to project, too!
