I can see teachers using this as a group guessing game to prompt students to discuss how skills learned in school (math, science, communication) apply to real-world roles. Or dig deeper by using the provided link to a FREE Everfi course to further explore a career path of the students choosing. This can tie into most content areas!

We can't deny it ... videos can be an important part of a classroom. There are a tremendous amount of videos out there and it's hard to weed through them. When I came across RetroReport (thanks to Matt Miller!), I was excited! As a history nerd, many of these videos support history classrooms, but there are a few other categories like biology and chemistry. Quality short documentaries that support learning will always be a win!   

HOW CAN TEACHERS USE THIS RESOURCE?

I can see teachers using this in their classrooms to help support specific content. (I just went down a little rabbit hole myself with one of their documentaries!) These can also be great starters for classroom discussions. Be sure to check out the suggested lesson plans, too!

"The Toolkit for Assessing Phones in Schools (The TAPS) is a free, ready-to-use toolkit designed to help elementary, middle and high schools evaluate their phone policy. The TAPS was jointly developed by the Stanford Social Media Lab and the Tech and Society Lab at NYU Stern."  

I have become a big believer in the need to limit/eliminate the use of students' cell phones in school. I also believe we, as a society, need to push back on the "norm" of giving devices to kids at a young age. This resource is built for schools to help your school figure out what is best for you. I love that it is set up in a way for you to include ALL the "players" - students, parents, teachers, and admin.

I can see teachers sharing this resource with their school leaders. Some of us need to start a conversation, some of us need to continue a conversation, and some are at the point of revisiting conversations to ensure the policy best fits their community.

I love a good puzzle. I'm mostly referring to jigsaw puzzles, but I do enjoy "figuring things out", too. Math is the perfect subject to do that in. Robert Kaplinsky is a math teacher and creator of Open Middle problems, which typically requires higher level thinking to solve. I love sharing resources that will challenge your students but allow them to have fun at the same time.

HOW CAN TEACHERS USE THIS RESOURCE?

I can see teachers using this as bell ringers, activities for fast finishers, or just at random points to break up the regular flow of the classroom. These math problems encourage a different kind of thinking about math. Choose the appropriate grade level and you are set!

"The world's largest library of math and science simulations." 

If you are a math or science teacher, that probably caught your eye. Poking around at the site, I found a great filtering system - by grade, by topic, and by standard. It looks to be well organized - always a plus in my book. I also see that there is a free trial for an entire month of all their Gizmos and then a reduced account if you choose not to purchase. This is always a great way to try out a product before investing in it. And at the very least, there is a rotating selection of free ones to come back to.

HOW CAN TEACHERS USE THIS RESOURCE?

I can see math & science teachers using Gizmos in their classrooms to support students' learning on a variety of topics. Gizmos might be perfect to challenge some students, support others, or simply give practice in applying content knowledge.

The Infographics page on GrammarCheck.net offers a collection of visual guides on a variety of grammar and writing topics. This is a great resource for educators because the infographics cover everything from common writing errors and literary devices to unique collective nouns for animals. The friendly and colorful format makes learning about grammar more engaging and memorable for students.  

HOW CAN TEACHERS USE THIS RESOURCE?

I see teachers printing them out and displaying in their classroom or using as a digital teaching aid. They might also think of using a few of them as inspiration for having students create their own as a way to demonstrate understanding of a grammar topic.

They have WordPress websites with the FLEX theme, managed hosting, mobile apps, and workflow management tools (FLOW). The service also includes training resources and professional support tailored for student media, serving both college and K-12 news sites.  

HOW CAN TEACHERS USE THIS RESOURCE?

I can see teachers using this in their news and journalism class. This will allow for easy and professional sharing of school news. It does come with a cost, but it is definitely worth looking into!

I am going to revert to being a social studies teacher for a little bit while I sing the praises of this book & it's accompanying website with resources. 

Amazing!

I've linked the website here, but it's really all about a book - The Social Studies FIELD Guide. The FIELD is an acronym for "Foundational Evidence, Inquiry, EdTech, and Lesson Design". This can help every history teacher ... and to top off the pedagogy, the website provides a lot of resources for you to explore.

HOW CAN TEACHERS USE THIS RESOURCE?

I can see teachers using this to improve their own teaching. Even a veteran can learn a thing or two. There's also the ability to join the community and connect with other like-minded educator's.

History isn't dead!

What an eye-catching statement?!  As a former history teacher, I just had to click on this one ... "Untold History".  It says it's a collection of short stories that don't always get told. Wow! What an amazing addition to your classroom. The videos are high quality and cover a wide range of content - from authors to monuments to art.

I can see teachers incorporating videos that match their content. The videos are relatively short, but pack a lot of information. At the end, they have a great question that can be used as a writing prompt, research topic, or simply a class discussion.

Having students provide each other feedback is helpful to learn and improve. The Back to School & End of Year Templates are a great way to help start and reflect on the school year. If you only check out one of the categories, be sure to hit up the game templates ... so many different games that you - AND your students - can customize and create using.

This resource is amazing! Created by Angela Watson - of Truth for Teachers - to help teachers help their students. We all know students have to be willing participants in their learning or it won't happen. As a classroom teacher, I am frustrated with the lack of engagement and the behaviors that cause disruptions and take my attention away from those who want to learn. I am hoping to utilize Unit 1 soon in my classroom.

As of December, 2024 - there are 6 units ready for middle school (grades 6-8) and 6 units for high school (grades 9-12). Elementary units are noted to be coming soon. It's also important to note - the first unit is available completely FREE! 

HOW CAN TEACHERS USE THIS RESOURCE?

I can see teachers using this in their classrooms for sure! I'd recommend being strategic with the lessons. I'm sure you can repeat them, but I'd think a building-wide approach would benefit all students. With 6 units, it'd be ideal to assign them to grade levels so there is a wholistic approach. 

Licenses can be purchased for more than one teacher, too.

I came across this PDF on Twitter and held onto it. It isn't glamorous. It isn't pretty or fancy. But I believe it is powerful and can help all teachers. Two pages of questions teachers can ask their students for many different purposes but all stretch their thinking. This gathering of was published by Tracy Zager in her book, Becoming the Math Teacher You Wish You'd Had: Ideas and Strategies from Vibrant Classrooms.  

HOW CAN TEACHERS USE THIS RESOURCE?

I can see teachers using this to push their students' thinking. To challenge them. The PDF can be kept on hand and used at various times. No preparation is needed. Teachers might also embed specific questions in lessons to purposefully encourage students to use their intuition.

I cannot tell you how I connected with this website, but am I glad I did! Wow!!! I had a conversation with a SS teacher in my school about teaching her students to read historical material and help them make sense of it and the very next day, I received an email highlighting this activity. (Ironic?) This site works on that very skill! I really wish I had this when I was teaching history! Amazing! The two big sections are US History and World History, and then you can dig in by era.

I can see teachers using this to teach students how to better read historical material. It will also allow teachers to introduce students to historical material and provide a better understanding of events of the past. This is a bookmark for sure!!!

I am going to give the credit for this resource to my 7th grade daughter. She was recently telling me how she had to learn all the African countries and she showed me how she was studying for her test. Wow! Feedback is important for both the creator and those giving the feedback. I've realized in recent years, honest & real peer feedback can go much further than teacher feedback. I am incorporating more peer feedback in various ways in my own classroom this year and really appreciate Catlin's choice board. I believe most students struggle to frame the feedback in an appropriate way - they don't want to be mean or they simply don't know how to take their thoughts and frame it in a way to make it valuable to their peer. Catlin's choice board can really help with both.

HOW CAN TEACHERS USE THIS RESOURCE?

I can see teachers using this across all content areas and for a variety of activities. I recently had my students complete a project and they had to provide feedback for each other. Comparing this choice board to the feedback form I had, this one wins, hands down! Since it's shared via a Google Doc, you can easily tweak it to best fit you and your students.

Hey, math teachers! Check out this website. 200 "puzzles" to solve! They are broken up into 3 levels to make it easier to guide you and your students to the right level of puzzle. While there is a log in option, it's not necessary. These can be great "fast finisher" practices or when you have 5 minutes for a brain teaser. I enjoyed doing them, too!

HOW CAN TEACHERS USE THIS RESOURCE?

I can see teachers using this with students as a starter activity or a brain break in the classroom. I love this idea of having students explain how they came up with their answers. With roughly 200 puzzles, students can really practice problem solving with no work on your end.

Let's be honest ... there are a LOT of tools out there. Icograms Designer will allow you and your students to "Create beautiful 3D looking Maps, Infographics and Isometric Illustrations within minutes" as their homepage states. And yes! They are beautiful!!! Wow! 

The link I've shared is their education edition - which I wasn't initially aware of, but while checking out their page, I noticed a link in the lower corner. 

Icograms Designer is a "freemium" which means it can be used without paying, but you will be limited in the number you make as well some of the items you have access to.

HOW CAN TEACHERS USE THIS RESOURCE?

I can see teachers using this with older students - it's not the easiest and will take some learning on your students' part. Teachers can create classes and student accounts and then see submissions and give feedback.

Be sure to check out their tutorials page and their lessons. If this tool is right for you & your students, there is some help and guidance.

Video editing. Two words that may not feel attainable in school - BUT I can attest that it is possible with the right tool. WeVideo is that tool. Not only do I love and use WeVideo, but I've used it with many groups of students ... some as young as 3rd grade.

I can see teachers using WeVideo and these possible projects in their classroom. Students will enjoy the ability to create in new ways. Teachers can take any of these projects and use them as options for WeVideo creations. The projects range from SEL, to writing, to digital citizenship, and more.

I LOVE Book Creator and I have been using it in my own classroom for numerous years. I have also shared it with several colleagues and supported their use. My favorite project has been with a 7th grade ELA class writing holiday stories and then sharing the libraries with our elementary buildings right before winter break. Always a highlight of the year! 

Over the last few years, Book Creator has added some wonderful updates and features that make it even more wonderful. This share is the perfect example of what makes Book Creator awesome. The templates built in to Book Creator are also an easy start ... your students can focus on the content, while customizing the templates to create a beautiful product.

I love that any teacher can start using Book Creator for free! It will give you the opportunity to try it out and fall in love. A few years back, I even did the professional learning with Book Creator and became a Certified Author and then was honored to join in the Ambassador program.

I can see teachers using this book a number of different ways:

• be inspired with the number of ways Book Creator can be used
• use the Teacher Training & Support to teach yourself how to use/improve use of Book Creator
